granola love

You likey granola?
If your answer is yes, or no, you will love this granola.
Why? because it's my grandma's recipe (with a few modifications).
And it's ama-za-zing.
And it will taste better when you make it wearing a tye-dye shirt, tevas or berkenstocks+wool socks, then drive away on your bike or subaru. How do I know? Personal experience.

(I get almost all this stuff in bulk at Winco or Fred Meyer)

in a large roasting pan mix:
  • 8 cups old fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup chopped almonds
  • 1 1/2 cup wheat germ (I used bran this time cause its what I had on hand)
  • 1 1/2 cup oat bran
  • 1 1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup ground flax seed
  • 1 cup shaved coconut

in sauce pan mix:
  • 1 cup veg. oil
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 3 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • stir honey/oil mix occasionally until boiling
  • pour honey/oil mixture over oats and stir until well coated.
  • bake at 325, stirring often, for about 40 minutes.
  • so nurse your baby, then stir, change a diaper, then stir, make a sandwich, then stir, pull your toddler off the counter, then stir, and then it will be almost ready!

Once its a nice toasty, golden brown, take it out, and stir in about 3 cups dried cranberries or cherries, or if you take crazy pills...raisins.

I'm tell'n ya, this is good stuff.
Divine with yogurt, or milk (for my vegan friends its great with soy and/or hemp milk, kinda my favorite way to go)

Keep it in fridge or freezer...makes a TON.

mmmmm...love me some homemade granola! And I have rolled oats coming out my ears. The only thing I'm missing is bran and coconut...I'm thinking I could make it without those things?

that looks good! I have been looking for flax seed and I cannot find it anywhere! Do you know where else I can find it cause there is no winco or fredies here.

That looks delicious! I love having granola in my yogurt along with fresh fruit but hate the price of it. I'm gonna have to give this a try!!

Thanks for the recipe! I'll have to give it a try. If we have it on hand, maybe Spencer will learn how to say it. :)

I just read the recipe again more closely and the first time I totally missed the part about "nurse your baby, stir around, make a sandwhich...." SO FUNNY!!!
You store it in the fridge? I've never heard of that, how long does it last for (last as in before it starts tasting off)?

No idea how long it lasts....we eat it all too fast to know! I bet a while though. My grandma freezes half, then keeps the rest in the fridge. That's what i did too and the fridge bag is almost gone...
