fart

Chad: "I bet people think I'm weird."
Me:"Why?"
Chad:"Cause look at me, then look at the groceries I brought home and how excited I am about them!"
<span class=
I am totally ok if people think we are weird cause we buy lots of veggies and are excited about it.
Our current obsession: brussel sprouts.
But how to cook them you ask?
Here is how:
  • Cut off the stem, and cut each sprout in half or quarter it, depending on size.
  • In a large frying pan, dump them all in and toss with a little bit of olive oil (just enough to coat)
  • Add minced a couple tbsp garlic (be mindful we love garlic!) and one small onion (chopped).
  • Saute on med-high until onions are soft and the sprouts are a bit brown too.
  • Then add about 1/2-1 cup vegetable broth (or chicken, which ever you have on hand) and cover on medium heat.
  • Let them cook until the water is basically gone and the spouts are tender.
  • Salt and pepper to taste, or even better, Greek seasoning to taste.
And wallah! Wholesome goodness!

Warning: your house will smell like a huge fart after cooking these

(ya know, just like boiling eggs or steaming broccoli)

ps-its totally worth the gaseous smelling house, promise!

With the title of the post I was thinking that you were going to say that farts were one of the side affects, like that's what brussel sprouts make you do. I was cracking up about it before I even finished reading.
I guess the upside to any food side affects is that you are both eating it together, and are both in the same boat. (I know you said it was just the smell from cooking them, my mind just wanders pretty fast).
I know for me that any of the veggies that smell like that when I cook them (brussel sprouts, broccoli) all have the same affect on my digestive track. I think Marcus wishes I ate less of them ;)
Or if I do eat them that I at least follow it with a beano chaser!
That recipe sounds delish, definately putting it on my list of things to make soon!

okay, funny thing is i totally clicked on this post to comment about how vashti is the most gaseous person ever and she doesn't need to be eating brussel sprouts. lo and behold, she was the first comment.

i am not surprised.

we love brussel sprouts too. we toss them with a little but of olive oil, salt and pepper and grill them and it's great! Plus, then you're cooking them outside so the gross smells don't stink up the house. :)

We may look at you a little funny, but we all secretly wish we were more like you.

I don't think you guys are weird, because brady and I buy stuff like that all the time. I am pretty sure that people think we are weird because we don't eat meat or dairy. But I too love brussel sprouts. I hear they are good if you roast them in the oven with walnuts and apples.
