how to catch fruit flies:

Photobucket
Place some fruit chunks in a bowl (or jam lid in our case)
wrap with plastic wrap, poke (really) small holes in it.
let it sit for a few days,
they crawl in, but can't crawl out.

Bye-bye flies!

(takes a couple days to get them all)

I needed to know this two weeks ago when I was canning pears. I hope that I can remember this great bit of info for the next time fruit flies come abuzzin' around my kitchen!

Great idea. Thanks for the tip. I can't stand those things.

Did that actually work for you? I read that online and tried it about a month ago when we had some in our kitchen, but they never flew in the little holes. I ended up just buying a little trap from the hardware store for like $7...
